lookslikeablizzard: (Cold=- Hand up)

"All right. Line up!" Ward yelled over the sound of the roaring plane and the open door. As his team started to line up and stand, arms crossed or hips cocked or brows raised, they watched and he smiled.

"We are 20,000 feet in the air. The average jumper goes from 12,000 feet, but we thought you were better than that. And you might need a bit more time. You will fall at speeds of 120 miles per hour, but only for a little over a minute. Faster if you do it better then others. Base camp is near by. For those of you who make it, lunch is almost ready. For those of you who don't, either you have a very long walk ahead of you or we'll be collecting your body before the day is over."

That was when Donnie raised a hand, calling over the sound of the wind rushing in. "Shouldn't we actually have some real training before shoving us out the door?" Because this sounded so asinine! Skydiving this high with out any idea what to do. And where were their packs? Parachutes. He looked to see no one had one around.

And he didn't see any on the jet either.

"This is your training." Ward called and moved to look at the jump space, his watch and back to his team. "This is a duel lesson today, folks. We want to see how many of you can manifest a new power or swiftly control your power on a free fall. For those of you who don't have powers you better have come prepared for anything. I did tell you be ready for anything, did't I? Right. Well, off you get."

A couple of people took off easy enough. The more experienced people who had the added bonus of flying powers. For these people this was nothing. For Donnie he looked angry, almost frantic. "No way!" He said, glaring at Ward like he was insane. "I can't fly!" He yelled over the engines. "You didn't say bring a god damn parachute either!"

Ward shrugged and grabbed Donnie by the arm. "I told you, it's a duel lesson. Figure out what that means." He shoved Donnie out the plane and two seconds later, waving at his brother before he did, he back stepped off the plane himself, no chute.

What ever Donnie yelled at Ward as he got shoved off was lost on the wind, his body tumbling, free falling as he went. He wasn't one for cursing as much as some people, but a very long and loud stream of "FUCK! FUCK! SHIT! FUCK!" spilled from his mouth as he frantically tried to right himself, ending up spinning in the air as he flailed. He could see magneto far below, grabbing two others with ease, but he didn't even think anything of it.

Lana drifted near him, yelling to him. "Need a hand?!"

"Fuck you!" His voice absolutely broke at a high pitch as he twisted and tumbled, not at all realizing he just yelled at Lana, trying to get on his belly to slow his fall. "Fuck! Fuck! What the fuck!"

Ward just then started to dart by, grinning a wicked smile as he did. "remember who your team mates are, Gill." He...winked (did that fucker WINK as he went by?) at the two as he free fell past like he had not a care in the world.

In his panic, Donnie snapped at Ward as well. "I hate you!" In his anger he was turning blue, his eyes went from brown to blue, and one hand shot ice downwards, trying to hit Ward, maybe... maybe not. He shot ice a few more times, flinging himself on his back now. "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck..." he ranted out fast, not even realizing Lana was falling near him still. The look on her face was amused, for the most part. She made sure to fall along with him.

He couldn't get anything but huffs of ice from the other hand. It felt weird, wrong, and he could see the Earth coming closer. His string of cursing came faster. He couldn't at all see magneto had grabbed Ward as well as the others who hand't been able to fly.

Lara, swishing over to him grabbed him from behind, at the under arms, talking to him swiftly. "Stop freaking out. We got you! Concentrate on slowing yourself down!" And with her hands out past him she shot a pulse of energy that slowed their fall. She did it a few more times, but had to let him go because of how cold he was getting. "Focus!" She said strongly to him.

At that last command and catching the strong gaze of her eyes he nodded, focusing on his powers. His body went frostier then before, and both hands were able to kick up some ice through the air. And because there was so much moisture IN the air he was able to build up good sheets of ice with out even thinking.

That was when it happened. Before 500 feet to the ground, he had a sheet of ice shooting out of both hands, below his feet, leaving him to slide and arc his decent. He personally had never thought of it before, but he was able to slow down drastically, and even kept it up to the point that he could curl around and bring himself the last 100 feet towards the ground.

Only to lose it about the last 100 feet, sputtering ice and toppling over. Head over feet and back again. Just as he put his hands down to try and stop his fall to the ground, he felt something yank at his metal belt, folding him over with a woof and at the last few feet, dropped him face first into the ground.

Lana landed near by and ran over to him to check on the boy. "That was amazing, Donnie! I didn't know you could do tha--oh." She covered her mouth and stifled a laugh as she saw him sit up.

Donnie, spitting grass and mud sat up with an ice blue glare, though his skin was going back to normal. "Yeah. Real amazing." He complained, running a hand over his face in frustration. He could see the others not too far away, Magneto standing with a group and talking with them, and Ward walking towards the two of them.

"Not bad, Gil. Could use some work there at the end."

"Yeah, real funny. That was a blast. Can't wait to do it again." He complained, taking Lana's help up and trying to dust himself off. The grass had been muddy though. Awesome.

"I told you. Duel lesson. One, see if you could manage to ass your own ass with your powers, which it looks like you did. Two, remember who your team mates are and use some teamwork, which Lana, you excelled at. Good work you two, and look, you made it near base.Warm lunch for everyone." he said with a smirk and started back to the group.

Donnie frowned darkly after Ward, rubbing his hand off on his pants and feeling, well... stupid.

Lana grinned, dropping an arm over his shoulder and pulling him along to get him walking. "I thought it was pretty cool. And look at the mess you left behind." She said, pointing back behind them.

He glanced, looking at the shattered sheets of ice on the ground, broken like glass, some of it stuck in muddy grass, other parts shattered in to shards. All of it already melting, just a bit. He let out a small heh sound, which was as close to a laugh as she was going to get from him right now.

"At least it's just water, I guess." he kicked his foot in the muddy grass and started to walk with her. "Might need to get shoes with less grip on them if I try that again, ever."

"Oh, you will. You have to. That was awesome." She encouraged with a grin, nudging him as they walked.

"Yeah. Maybe." He said, with more of a smile now. He glanced over at her, staring a moment, then smirked (actually smirked) as he leaned in to kiss her cheek with a small peck. "Thank you. For getting my attention again. Couldn't have done it with out you."

He untangled from her arm and pulled his muddy sweater off, mostly to distract himself from how adorable she looked after he did and said that. He used it to wide at his face, in annoyance at being dirty, and walked along with her to the base. Not at all hungry now, and trying to tell himself he wasn't stupid for cheek kissing the one person who has his attention almost constantly.
